What's up with that Bullying Stuff?

Bullying is a rough and gruesome topic almost anyone from any grade will have to deal with due to other people's indecency. It's something everyone will have to deal with at some point in their lives. Why? Why do people have to bully? From a personal standpoint, I also get bullied often and here is how to overcome this obstacle.

You might not understand that bullying is a tough topic to deal with. I get bullied so much. I get called short practically every time I walk the hallways. However, I have found ways to overcome these horrible situations and in my opinion, I think the best way to overcome bullying is by facing the bully, not in a fighting way instead with a talk.

Now, you may be thinking “That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard. The bully will never listen.” That could be right. They will probably ignore what you say, but it's a good start. If they don’t listen then you really have to start telling him you are the bigger person, not actually telling him, however, start dealing with them the hard way. Number one, make sure to tell a teacher, your parent or any trusted person. If a teacher or trusted adult knows, they can help you deal with the bully.

Recently, there was an assembly about the Teacher’s Support Team. It is great to know all teachers in Marie Curie 158 will be there to help you. Don’t be scared to ask a teacher. You can trust your homeroom teacher, ELA, math, science, even your gym teacher! They can report the bully to the Principal, an Assistant Principal, or to the Dean. Any of these people can and will help you. You can also walk away from the bully and ignore them at all cost.

If you are being bullied, hopefully these tips can help you make it better! But don’t forget that your bully is a person too, so even though they bully you does not mean you should bully them back. Often a bully becomes a bully because of some negative situation in his or her life. He or she could need help and could be targeting another person who they see as more of an underdog then themselves. This isn’t right, but the act of a bully could also be a cry for help.

Most importantly, if you see someone being bullied, step in and help. Seek the support of a trusted adult to help. Try distracting the bully by telling them a joke. Don’t just be a bystander, be an Upstander and help to make everyone feel comfortable and included. School should be a home away from home where you can come and feel happy and safe. If everyone works together maybe one day bullying can be something in the past. When we work together we can create success!
