The Marie Curie 158 Sharing Closet

Good afternoon, students of Marie Curie Middle school–another day passes, we walk in these halls, oblivious to the problems around us. Fortunately, there is a group of students, along with some awesome teachers who care. Civics! Beware, my opinion is somewhat biased as a first year member.

The pandemic was a devastating hit to NYC’s food supply and job offers. We shortly after had food shortages. Some of the problems still leak into today's issues-some kids struggle to gain the things that come so easily to us. After months of strenuous planning, emails, and brainstorming, I present to you..the sharing closet/sharing closet! A tiny, dusty room in the guidance office has turned into my idea of a wonderland. Zen posters line the wall, lava tiles cover the floor. A closet lies in the corners, holding non-perishable goods and hygienic products. Anyone who needs a helping hand can talk to a guidance counselor and walk into the room, and take some of the items. Many of the staff members have had a hand in this project, including the janitors, who colored the room a gorgeous lavender, the principals and assistant principals who gave us the go, and Ms. Coogan and Ms. Schifaudo who’ve guided us. If you want to help us, please bring in donations-including..

  • Tissues

  • Canned non perishable goods

  • Hygienic products

  • Instant noodles

  • Books

  • Fidgets

  • Somewhat used jackets
