Every summer is amazing in my opinion, but in the middle of the summer like out of no where, you may get a little bored and there is a solution. Find a book that will be a part of “summer reading” and finish it. The book I am planning to read over the summer is “Hearts Touched By the Fire"  by David Gergen

Why Read?

Did you know that when you read over the summer it can strengthen your reading comprehension? This is very important and here are some reasons why Summer reading can significantly boost reading comprehension: by allowing for focused practice and engagement with diverse texts; this will ultimately enhance vocabulary, fluency, and critical thinking skills. By making reading a regular and enjoyable activity, students can prevent the "summer slide" and build a strong foundation for the next school year.

Increased Vocabulary

Did you know that if you read for over 20 minutes per day your vocabulary can improve into the 90th percentile? This is amazing because summer reading significantly improves vocabulary by exposing individuals to a wider range of words and phrases encountered in various texts. Regular reading helps maintain and enhance reading skills, which is crucial for vocabulary development, especially for those who may struggle with reading.

Preparation for the School Year

Our final reason why you should do summer reading is because Summer reading programs help prepare students for the school year by maintaining and improving literacy skills, preventing "summer slide," and fostering a love of reading. They also enhance cognitive development, academic performance, and provide opportunities for exploring new topics and expanding knowledge.
