Stem: Why It's Important

STEM stands for Science, Technology, and Engineering, and Math. All are very relevant in the education of children, especially since the fate of children’s futures and jobs are in the hands of the department of education. It is said that 75% of jobs require employees to have/use STEM skills, and 82% of employees say that they value STEM skills, even if it is not required.

All of the subjects connect in a way that allows you to build on each of them, for example different careers need you to know more than just math, maybe it needs you to know mathematics and engineering. Let’s say you design an elevator and to build it you need to find the measurement in a mathematical matter and you need to know the proper mechanics to build the elevator.

If someone is lacking in any academic subject, it could take jobs out of the picture. If by some miracle you still find a job without no proper STEM education you might not know how to handle it and do things wrong! STEM is not about knowing every skill, but to harness the essential transferable skills behind them and to also use that knowledge to make a change. Being part of a team in STEM is also relevant as everyone has a part since each person could have a different advantage in that academic skill which I will go into more detail about in the next paragraph.

As you saw in the image at the beginning under each category it lists the essential skills that go with either science, technology, engineering, or math so if you take a look at technology and math, they take part in some form of science which proves my point that it is important to cover all academics. After all, you are only preparing the kids of today and soon the adults of tomorrow to be prepared and to make a good valued change in people's hearts or in a person's health or start a road to world peace!

Most think that not all academics are important for example social studies or writing but social studies can help you have a better understanding about human evolution and life on earth in the past or present so if we use the knowledge we already have, one can prevent it from happening in the future. As for writing, it can help you gain a deeper knowledge of how to write with proper evidence or to elaborate so if one becomes a judge or president or are making important wills or speeches or even contracts you know how to do it with good effort. Today's generation is very privileged to have google and other search engines to answer questions and do work for them but you can't learn from it if you don't understand it or maybe wikipedia and google aren't the best place for research so pick up a book which is more logical to do for research plus you need money for a device so to get money you need a well paying job and well paying jobs need high STEM skills so get to studying.

It is good to address this message even if the Department of Education is aware of this but it is good to remind them and raise awareness so nothing like unemployment levels reaching a low ever happens so everyone has a good career for centuries to come!
