8th Grade is an exciting year with many activities such as Senior Prom, Six Flags, and the Yearbook Picnic. 8th Graders have three assemblies where Ms. Biondo talks about every senior event. These activities will only happen at the end of the year. To attend all senior activities, you must have a satisfactory conduct record, satisfactory attendance record, and have cleared all accounts.

Senior Day or Yearbook Picnic:

It would be the day after prom which is the second week Friday. For the 1st period you have to go to class, which is boring. During the 2nd period, there would be an assembly for the senior trip to Six Flags for students and chaperones. Between 3rd period and 5th period, there would be a graduation rehearsal. In the sixth period you would have lunch (Normal). In the 7th and 8th period yearbooks would be distributed to all students who ordered one ($55). All students will get to go out to the school yard to sign yearbooks, and mingle with classmates and teachers. There will be a DJ, a photo booth, and an ice cream truck. This day would be a fun day to all 8th grade students!

Senior Prom:

Senior Prom will go on sale in March. This year tickets will be sold on March 3rd to March 12th. Tickets are $80 to go which includes DJ, photo booth, buffet dinner, and for the visit! It will be a fun time for all students attending. The Prom will span between 5:30pm to 8pm. This year we will go to Leonard’s Palazzo in Great Neck. In addition all students attending prom must be in attendance until 12 noon on the day of prom. Absent students will not be allowed to attend and money will be forfeited. This was also last year’s destination as seen in the photo:

Senior Trip:

Senior Trip will be on the last week of school to Six Flags Great Adventure. Tickets will be $130 to go. Your tickets include the bus ride, one meal, two snacks, and one drink. If you want to buy something, you may not even use cash (Cashless paying options). However, we will not be stopping for dinner. You must get to school before the bus at 7:00am. The students will board at 7:15am and the bus will leave at 7:30am. This trip will be 16 hours long. It will span between 7:00am (We arrive at 9am) and 4pm (We will arrive back at the school at 7pm). You must wear your senior shirt (This year is Class of 2026). You cannot take the bus and use your season pass at the same time. You must behave or you will be escorted out of the park and you must have a good attendance and conduct to attend this trip.

Senior Awards Ceremony:

The Senior Award Ceremony is for students who receive an invitation they are getting an award. The senior award ceremony will be held on the first Monday of June at 5:30 pm at the auditorium. They will not know which award or how many awards they’d get until that night. Each nominee is entitled to 4 additional guests. The invitation is your ticket.

High School Result Information:

SHSAT, public high schools, Townsend Harris, and Laguardia Highschool all came out just yesterday at the time of the writing (March 5th). The high school results always come out on the first Thursday of March. It is okay if you don’t get your desired high school (like I did). You might do better in the high school you actually got in than what you wanted. For example, I (Liam) got 557 on the SHSAT (4 points from Stuy, I know sad), but I got into Brooklyn Tech which may be better for me since it would be a bit less competitive (Maybe also a better college).  Oscar (The Other Writer) rejected the Bronx Science offer and instead chose Townsend Harris high school (Because he wanted to go there more). Anyways, all schools came out and you would see what specialized high schools (If you take SHSAT), Laguardia, public high schools, and Townsend Harris on the MySchools account, just half an hour after 3pm. If you pass a certain cutoff, then you would get into their high school. You might get waitlisted for the high school meaning that if people opt out of the high school, you may get into the high school. Catholic Highschools come out in January.

Regents:

Algebra 1 regents, Biology (Living Environment), US History, and World Language Proficiency Test Regents are tests in late June that you have to take. All the Regents are taken in the morning unless you opt out. This year (Class of 2026) Ms. Chaves will offer Algebra 1 Regents Review Classes after school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2:30 to 4:00 PM.  A sign up Google Form will be provided shortly to ALL ALGEBRA STUDENTS, regardless of math teacher. Ms. Brown and Ms. Cheng will also provide Algebra 1 Regents Review on Saturdays beginning in May. This year, Algebra Regents will be on June 17th, Biology (Living Environment) is on June 18th, the world language proficiency exam is on June 22nd, and the U.S. History exam is on June 23rd. You will get additional practice and take a mock Regents Exam for Algebra 1 during the Math State Exam (This year is on May 5th and 6th). More Regents review information for all exams will come in April. Remember that the Regents would be on your HS transcript.

Graduation:

Graduation will be on the 3rd week of Saturday @ 9:00am at Carnesecca Arena at St. John’s University. Students will need to report to St. Johns University by 8:00am. Do not go to MS 158 on the day of graduation. All students will receive their cap, gown, and tickets in early June. All students receive six tickets to start. If you are in need of additional tickets they can be requested through Google Form.  Look for that email the second week of June. Attendance at the ceremony counts as attendance for the day.  Students are not required to return to the school building after the ceremony.  If your child needs to go to the school building you must transport them there yourself.  There will be no transportation from St. John's. Here are the restrictions: the following is a partial list of prohibited items that are not permitted inside the venue. St. John’s University Management reserves the right to prohibit other items as deemed necessary balloons, beach balls, projectiles, strollers, weapons of any kind, laser pointing devices, alcohol, flags, banners, signs, sealed packages of any kind, hoverboards/skateboards, noise making devices, Animals (unless a service animal), personal folding chair, large handbags or tote bags, costumes, drones, fireworks, backpacks, mono/tripods or other professional camera equipment, selfie sticks, illegal drugs or substances. Exceptions will be made for those with medical requirements and/or special needs.
