Murals of Marie Curie

Have you been noticing the walls of the first floor of our school? Deck the halls with-beautiful murals! Commissioned by our Principal and inspired by the creativity by our very own teachers, Ms. Loizou and Ms. Abamont, these colorful drawings have been inspired by what Marie Curie holds proud- academic success, coding Cougars, scientific achievements, and more. 

In a burst of creativity, our school is transforming its hallways with vibrant new murals, thanks to the collaborative efforts of both professional artist and teacher Ms. Abamont, Ms Loizou (a self-taught artist) and students Analia Abreu, Danelle Lee, Ella Tsolekas, Jamie Hwang, Michelle J. Lee, Nancy Xinyi Huang, Rua Kim, Soo Lim, Yu Li and Zhi Yi Fan. This artistic project aims to bring our community closer together while beautifying our space, making it feel more welcoming for everyone.

Just after the 2025 new year started, Mr. McHugh, Ms. Abamont, and Ms. Loizou joined forces to kick off this exciting initiative. Each mural tells a unique story, reflecting the interests, dreams, and diverse backgrounds of our school community. The project was inspired by the idea that art can inspire positivity and dialogue among students, teachers, and families alike.

You might have noticed paint splatters and laughter echoing through the hallways as students often gather in groups, sketching designs and discussing colors. Art classes have been a hub of energy and collaboration, where students share their ideas and work together to create something special. Even students who may not consider themselves artists have found joy in participating, showing us all that creativity comes in many forms.

The murals are not just for decoration; they also aim to inspire. Teachers have encouraged students to express their values and experiences through their artwork. Each mural represents a different theme, such as friendship, respect, and perseverance, signifying the core values we uphold at our school. Students are working hard to ensure that each piece resonates with the unique spirit of our school community.

Student artists have joined the team, offering guidance and professional insights on the technical aspects of mural painting. This collaboration has added an exciting dimension to the project, enabling students to learn from experienced artists about design, color theory, and mural techniques. Many students have expressed appreciation for this opportunity, feeling inspired and empowered by the guidance they receive.

Classes have incorporated discussions about the murals into their curriculum, examining the stories and meanings behind each design. This project has become a focal point of pride for students, teachers, and parents, fostering a sense of community spirit that will surely ripple beyond our school walls.

On their way to classes on the 1st floor, students, teachers, and families walk through the hallways, admire the stunning artwork, and celebrate the creativity that brought it all to life. We encourage everyone to take a walk and observe the new murals.
