According to Google Kanye West, now known legally as Ye,“is an American rapper, songwriter, record producer and fashion designer. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential hip hop artists and producers.” But lately, he has been regarded as racist, anti-semitist, as well as boasting the phrase “white lives matter.” What is he doing and when did this start?
October 2022
On October 3, Ye was seen wearing a shirt that said “White Lives Matter ''. Three days later on Oct. 6th, Adidas announced their partnership with Ye “Under Review”. Then on October 7th and 8th Ye made an antisemitic post that suggested rapper Diddy was being controlled by Jewish people in response to Diddy criticizing his "White Lives Matter" shirt.” The next day, it was confirmed that Ye’s account was locked. Then on the 11th, it was revealed that he had said many anti-sematic comments on a since- deleted Tucker Carlson broadcast. On October 25th, Adidas had officially ended their business relationship with Ye. On the 27th, the parents of Kanye West’s private school Donda Academy received an email that the school would be closed for the rest of the year.
November 2022
On November 2nd, NBC news reported that Kanye West had talked with a former employee who alleged that he had praised Hitler, which are claims Kanye denied. A few weeks later “Ye is spotted with alt-right provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos. In a video shared by X17 Online, the rapper claims he will run for president again in 2024 and that Yiannopoulos is working on his campaign.” Two days later, reports revealed that Ye had attended dinner with Former President Trump, who has been facing controversies of his own, along with far-right conservative talk show host Nicholas Fuentes. According to Trump, “Trump says Ye "very much wanted to visit Mar-a-Lago" and their dinner "was intended to be Kanye and me only, but he arrived with a guest whom I had never met and knew nothing about."
December 2022
On the first day of December, Ye was a guest on conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ podcast and “repeatedly makes shocking antisemitic statements, including denying the Holocaust and openly praising Adolf Hitler.
Now that you know more about what has been going on, I am going to interview students in different grades to see their opinions on the events I just described.
Sophia Paz (7th grade): I hate Kanye, he's a rude racist and his Adidas shoes are ugly. Anonymous (7th grade): Kanye West is racist no one likes him for reasons like” White Lives Matter” and Adidas officially ended their business with him.
Anonymous (7th grade): Kayne is a good rapper. As a human being, he sucks because he's so mean to Jews and thinks so weirdly in a dumb way.
