Don’t Worry! We Are All Here For You

Everyone faces challenging situations at least once a day. For instance, someone might have faced bullying in school, or even darker situations like abuse and emotional distress. All of this is terrible and you will be judged by the way you deal with these situations. The outcome could potentially help you. In this article, I will be pointing out some of the best ways to deal with difficult situations.

  1. Get help from others.

Getting help from others could be a good way to let out your troubled emotions and stress. You can ask your guidance counselor in your school. In M.S. 158, we have an amazing group of counselors ready to help you. Also, you can get therapy from professionals. There is a group of therapists that are trained to talk to teenagers like us. Other benefits of talking to a person is that it lets you figure out how to change your mindset, build healthier, and better habits, and find solutions to problems.

  1. Listen to music

Listening to music helps you calm down and reduce more stress crawling to you. I asked my friend about how music calms her down in challenging situations, and she shared to me how the lyrics of the song could be emotional and relate to your struggles. This relation and understandable feeling could make you stand back up and keep persevering in your life. From personal experience, whenever I felt like crying, or giving up, I start listening to my Spotify playlist. This really helps me control my emotions and get myself back up.

  1.  Avoid any bad habits like drugs and alcohol

For everyone who fights their problems with addictive drugs, alcohol and relies on them to give them some kind of relief, please give quitting them a try! Research from scientists proves that these “relief” methods make your struggles and mental health worse, and not better. This is because these relief methods only trick your brain into thinking that you're “happy.” However, it is horrible for your heart, and makes you more vulnerable to diseases.

  1.  Have some “you” time

Dedicating some time to focus on making yourself happy and to relax is another great way to deal with hard times. For example, try going to a relaxing spa. That will prevent you from getting overwhelmed by stress and other troubling mindsets. Also, taking a break can let your happiness take over your body, making you laugh and just forget about your situations for at least a moment. After this break, it can motivate you to strive and fight through the challenging experiences. Some breaks to consider are to go to your favorite restaurant, go to an amusement park, start yoga, read a good book, draw/paint, and to go to the movie theater.

  1. Journal or draw your emotions

Journaling or drawing my emotions can be great for people who are shy, social anxiety, and have a hard time expressing their emotions to others. I also use this method, using my phone to let my “rants” out in the note app that comes if you have an Iphone. This lets me comfortably, and freely say stuff.
