“Fearless” By Lauren Roberts

The “Powerless” series by Lauren Roberts has gained a lot of popularity since the first book was published in January of 2023. Since then it has grown in popularity due to the online book community. After “Powerless” gained some popularity, Roberts wrote a novella called “Powerful” about a side character which was released in April of 2024 and the second book of the trilogy called “Reckless” which was released in July of 2024. On Tuesday, April 8th, 2025, the third and final book of the series, “Fearless,” was released. 

About the Author

Lauren Roberts was encouraged by her followers on social media to start writing a book after she posted some of her writing. At age 18 she did exactly that and started writing “Powerless.” During the writing process, she would post parts of her book on “TikTok.” When she finished writing “Powerless” she self published the books meaning you could buy them online but not in a store because she wasn't officially published. Eventually as the book gained popularity through the internet it got officially published by “Simon & Schuster.” She has written three more books since then and continues to post on various social media platforms.

About the Story

The series takes place in a kingdom called Ilya. Years ago, when a deadly plague dubbed the Plague swept through Ilya, most who survived gained various magical abilities, thus becoming Elites-and those without powers were Ordinaries. Elites saw Ordinaries as weak and banished them from Ilya.

The books mostly follow the perspectives of the two main characters-Paedyn Gray, an orphaned Ordinary, and Kai Azer, an Elite prince and future Enforcer–whose job is to hunt and execute Ordinaries. Paedyn lives in the poorest part of Ilya called the Slums, brimming with poverty and cruelty. She survives by posing as a Psychic and thieving food and fabrics for Adena-a Phaser (an Elite with the ability to phase through solid objects), and Paedyn’s best friend-who loves to sew. However, everything changed when one day, her selected victim to rob just so happens to be Kai Azer.
