Alright. All of you should calm down.
There has been a debate that started a few years ago - and it is still happening - on whether BTS or Blackpink is better. So today, I’m going to “settle” that debate from a pre-teen/teen’s point of view by asking the students of M.S.158Q about their opinion on which K-pop band is better.

Let’s start with some people that have a variety of reasons as to why they like BTS.

Which K-pop band do you think is better?
“BTS.”
Why do you think that band is better?
“I think BTS is better because the music has more collaborations with famous singers from the U.S. And there are different types of singers and they have some American songs.”
What song would you recommend to those who don’t know the k-pop band?
“I would recommend “Butter” because it is upbeat and it gets you up in the morning.”
Next, we have an anonymous student in the 7th grade from class 707.

“BTS”
Why do you think that band is better?
“I think BTS is better because the music is authentic and their music I feel is more expressive. I feel like their music varies more than Blackpink’s music does. Some of BTS music is groovy and gets you up in the morning but some of the songs make you feel emo.”
What song would you recommend to those who don’t know the K-pop band?
“I would recommend Butter cause it’s cool”

“Cause girl voices are better? And also, BTS is overrated.”
What song would you recommend to those who don’t know the k-pop band?
“I would recommend “Kill This Love” because it’s got a better beat.”

Why do you think that band is better?
“I believe that Blackpink’s music is more authentic and touches your heart. I think their lyrics are B O P I N G. The four girls make up one song compared to BTS when they have to have 8 members to make one song. Also, their lyrics are good -no, better- than BTS.”
What song would you recommend to those who don’t know the k-pop band?
“Lovesick Girls” because it touches your heart, that’s why. It gives you the good vibes.”

You may think there are people who only like either BTS or Blackpink, but there are some that can’t choose for entirely different reasons.
Sarah Sachdeva, an eighth-grader from class 821 says:

“I can’t really compare them because they are very different.”
Why do you think that band is better?
“I can’t decide because Blackpink is more western side and BTS has a more K-pop style.”
What song would you recommend to those who don’t know the K-pop band?
Blackpink: “Don’t Know What To Do”. BTS “Boy With Luv.” I chose “Boy With Luv” because “Boy With Luv” is a rap-oriented song. And I chose “Don’t Know What To Do” from Blackpink because it’s very different from their other songs because it is soft and cute sounding compared to their rap-oriented songs.”

“I say both because they both don’t have any flaws.”
What song would you recommend to those who don’t know the k-pop band?
“I would recommend Blackpink’s “Kill This Love” because it’s the most generic Blackpink song ever. And from BTS, I would recommend “Need U” because it’s nice.”

As you have seen from the interviews the students of 158 have many different points of view. Some prefer BTS, some prefer Blackpink, and others either can’t decide or like both! But, to “settle” this once and for all, I’d like to see how many students in this school either like BTS, Blackpink, or just can’t choose!
