Black Widow: Movie Review by Your Peers

Black Widow: Movie Review by Your Peers by Kaitlyn Toy

The “highest-grossing movie of 2021 with $181.5 million in the United States and the fifth highest-grossing movie of the year worldwide with $371 million”, you know it as Marvel Studios’ “Black Widow”. Directed by Cate Shortland, (the first woman to receive solo directing credit on a Marvel movie), “Black Widow” was initially released on June 29th, 2021 and is now available on Disney+.

“Black Widow” has many iconic actors, starring Scarlett Ingrid Johansson, who played an active role as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). She also starred/participated in many popular films such as: Sing & Sing 2, Jojo Rabbit, Home Alone 3, Maleficent, etcetera. Although Black Widow was widely popular enough, “at face value, this is far below Marvel expectations”.

“The Curious Times” has interviewed several students to share their opinion on the movie.

Interviewed Student Ratings:

  • 9/10: “It was a good movie but I didn’t like how she died at the end. I did like how her relationship with her sister got better and how we got to really know her story. STAN TWICE!”

  • 5/10: “Half-and-half, really. It was just a backstory movie, which I expected and I mostly enjoyed it. But I thought they could have explained more, as a movie that kind of explains what led up to Endgame for Black Widow.”

  • 10/10: “I LOVED IT! It was a real masterpiece, filled with action and an emotional twist.

  • 7/10: “I liked this movie, I enjoyed learning more about how Black Widow came to be and its amount of feminism it displayed. While not one of my most favorite movies, I still recommend it.”

  • 1/10: “It was the biggest disappointment I have seen from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

  • 3/10: “The Black Widow movie was okay, but honestly it seemed like the script was written in a rush. It wasn’t entirely horrible, I liked the sister moments, but it should have told more about her backstory with Hawkeye.”
