Who Was Gypsy Blanchard and What Happened To Her

If you haven’t heard the news yet, Gypsy Rose Blanchard was recently released from prison.  Everyone’s talking about what happened, and if she should stay in prison or not. However, the reason why people are so interested in why she got out of jail is the reason why she got into jail in the first place.

Growing up, Gypsy Blachard lived with her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. However Dee Dee Blanchard was sure that Gypsy had a medical condition. From this state of mental health, Dee Dee would take young Gypsy Blanchard to the hospital, running the procedures that Dee Dee believed Gypsy needed.

After running tests, doctors have found that Gypsy was perfectly fine. Through these tests, Dee Dee still believed that her daughter had a medical condition that must be fixed.

Although no other procedures needed to be made, Dee Dee insisted that Gypsy needed help. Dee Dee managed to describe to the authorities that her daughter had leukemia ( a type of cancer forming in the blood's tissue) and muscular dystrophy (a person containing multiple muscle diseases), two of which are life threatening conditions.

Of course there wasn’t an escape for Gypsy, she was given the medical attention that she  ‘needed’.  It was obvious that Dee Dee Blanchard needed help. But nobody was able to help Dee Dee, as she just appeared as the ‘sane’ mother that was worried about her child so instead her mental health progressively grew worse. Overtime Dee Dee managed to convince the world that her daughter was severely sick, as ‘she had asthma, seizures, hearing and visual impairments’-when in reality, Gypsy Blachard was a healthy child.

With all these ‘medical conditions,’ Dee Dee claimed that additionally, Gypsy also needed surgery, and a wheelchair. Dee Dee went as far as to have Gypsy use a breathing tube for when she slept- all of which Gypsy didn’t need.

In years to come, Gypsy started to become more conscious, which made it harder for Dee Dee to control her. Eventually, Gypsy somehow managed to find that she was in a healthy state-meaning that over time that she didn’t need the medicine, not that she ever had needed it before.

Even though she no longer needed to take the medicine, Gypsy was still unable to notify anybody about her state. Gypsy was trapped, with no way out-concealed from the world.

One day, Gypsy managed to find a way online- and when she was able to she would go on a dating site, where she met her online boyfriend; Nicholas Godejohn. Gypsy was able to open up to Nicholas, as she was able to tell him the truth-the truth that her mother kept her trapped and-how her life is.

Eventually, Gypsy asked Nicholas if he could kill Dee Dee to help set her free. On June, 9th, 2015, Nicholas killed Dee Dee. Nicholas, and Gypsy then went to Wisconsin, where Nich lived. It was only when the police tracked the two of them down. Later arresting Nick and Gypsy. Nick was charged with the murder of Dee Dee Blanchard, and a life sentence. Gypsy was charged with second degree murder, and was charged with a 10 year sentence in jail.

Gypsy Blanchard was released from jail December 28, 2023.

Now that she’s officially free,  Gypsy has been freely living and enjoying her life. Now that you understand her story, do you think what she did didn’t have to be the way?
