S & S

Opinion on "Perfect World" Songs and Their Presentation

*Welcome to another TWICE review by Sarah Sachdeva and Sarah Yu! We have attached full access to their album (featured on YouTube) in a ten song playlist (customizable on the video sidebar). Feel free to listen along while you read these reviews and make your own judgment on their songs!

TWICE never disappoints with their releases. This time, Japanese TWICE brings a new side of them, bold and powerful. Many songs in this album have been released beforehand, but it also features new tracks. You are truly in for a ride.

Perfect World 9/10

OKAY TWICE. This was such a phenomenal track and I love how TWICE is exploring a new side. This bold track tells us to “get out, get lost!”, describing a woman who forcefully tells a man to get lost after treating her horribly and how she will never want him back. There is so much to talk about, from the vocals to the music videos and dance, Jihyo, and more. First of all, everyone slayed the song. Jihyo’s high notes and Mina’s sweet voice made the song beautiful. Mina’s parts will truly make you want to listen to it more. In addition, hearing the members rap was such an experience. Tzuyu got more lines and Jeongyeon got to open the song. And let's talk about Nayeon, she always slays. Next, the music video. TWICE shows a beautiful stage and solo shoots of each member. They live in the moment and mesmerize everyone. And the dance! Jihyo’s transition is amazing in the music video as she uses her bold voice in the final chorus. Check it out!

BETTER 9/10

“Better” is also one of their top Japanese title track releases, along with “Perfect World”, “Doughnut”, and “Breakthrough”. Each member gets to display their talents beautifully in this song. The addicting pre-chorus makes you never want to stop listening. The chorus is also so bright and beautiful, hearing everyone’s high notes. The rap is also really well put and has a great flow, unlike some of their other raps. In addition, the outfits are beautiful and match with the overall song. We also love to see the video aesthetic. Overall, this is such a good song to listen to at any time and is not too over or underwhelming.

Good at Love 9/10

Many may agree that you can write a whole essay on why this song is so good. It is my overall favorite Japanese song and I think it would be the top title track, if it was one. First of all, the members' deep voices give the song a true feel and add emotion to it. Jihyo starts the song with her narration that sells the song already! In addition, Jeongyeon brings the talent of her strong voice to the song. Honestly, everyone has a high voice in the song, but these contributions make it amazing. The rap is also extraordinary. The lyrics note, “Am I good at love or bad at love”. They also blend voices and change pitches to set the mood of the song. You are surely in for a treat.

Fanfare 8/10

The way the song opens, you already know it's a hit. The instruments are truly beautiful and express fanfare. The instruments are truly the best part of the song and whoever composed it - hats off to them! Each member boldly sings to match the whole idea of being energetic. The chorus is very addicting and will make you want to put the song on loop. The lyrics are inspiring like “always be by your side.” The rap is a little misplaced because it doesn’t match the flow of the song. However, we do get to see many members sing the chorus that usually don't, which shows every member can sing beautifully.

Kura Kura 7/10

This song was one of the first releases of 2021, which made many anticipate it. For me, it was a cute song, but nothing too special though. The chorus is sweet and has a nice beat. The rap is ok but not the best. I do really like the music video and the outfits as they really natch the song. The lyrics go like “lose control all my heart and soul” and the song overall gives a magical vibe.

Four-Leaf Clover 9/10 This song is so cute and we all know TWICE does this best. Definitely also one of my favorite songs. They truly express the idea of loving someone in the way they are like your lucky charm. I can’t even choose one of my favorite lyrics, but here’s an example, “After meeting you. Everyday's a lucky day (Oh baby) If you suddenly look up. There is a rainbow. Four-leaf clover (Oh yeah, yeah)” The rap was not needed but I still enjoyed Momo rapping. In addition, everyone’s high notes made the song so enjoyable. Finally, Sana’s “yeah!” ended the song so beautifully.

In the Summer 10/10

Sana opening the song already made it beautiful. This is such a chill and lovable. It’s really catchy and you will want to listen to it again. The rap in the songs were so cute and the members shouting was just a gem. Everything in this song fit and joined together to make a masterpiece. The lyrics are so cute (again ik…) “Summer even if you close your eyes you can see the light, see the light see the light the sound of waves is healing in the summer a dreamy feeling, I can fly delicious food sweet fruits please [take] as much as you want(translated)” Again one of their bests. They just keep on getting better and better.

PIECES OF LOVE 8/10

The songs just keep getting better. You readers might think I'm biased, but this song is too amazing. TWICE never misses. This song makes you go into a trance. Same as the other songs, the lyrics are so cute. The beat is very overwhelming along with the high notes. (It was a little messy because of this.) Listening to this with headphones on loud volume was a bad idea :D The melodies are really beautiful too and I have to point out everyone’s soft voices make the song unique.

Thank you, Family 8/10

First of all, such a sweet song. The melodies are beautiful. This is a really chill song unlike the other songs which really adds to the fun of listening to this album. I just can’t stop praising all these songs… I don’t really come back to this track much, it's really fun when you’re in the mood.

PROMISE 8/10

The experience of listening to this album in ORDER was amazing. Usually K-pop albums don’t have a great order in placing songs, as they make it really messy with putting different types of songs after each other. This was such a great album and it made me want to listen to the album again. It’s much slower than “Thank You, Family” and is honestly kind of emotional. (Are they thanking me TT). Again, this isn’t one I would listen to daily but that doesn't deny its power and how elegant this song makes you feel. This song reminds me of those sad Disney princess songs.

All I can say is as always, TWICE never disappoints. This was truly one of their best and I would say, even better than some of their Korean albums.

S & S:

Rating Single EP “Doughnut”

Doughnut: "Doughnut" is one of TWICE’s singles about a crime scene. There is a complex story behind the music video. In the music video, the girls of Twice are tricked by a boy that they all love and are killed by him. Some girls are also driven by jealousy over the boy to kill each other. Only one of the girls survives to the end, Mina. All of the other girls end up in heaven, where they dance together. The song has an elegant feeling and a Christmas vibe. The music video for Doughnut has a very creative concept that is different from all of the other music videos that Twice has done before, which adds to the song’s appeal. Finally, the lyrics of the song and the graceful melodic sound of the lyrics will win over your heart. The song "Doughnut" is definitely worth a try!

Wonderful Day: So cute! This song really gives off cute Christmas vibes and spirit. I love Chae's high notes and Dahyun's soothing voice. The lyrics describe a wonderful Christmas day. The outfits in the live performance are beautiful and are sure to make you smile. I don’t come back to this song much though because it’s more towards Christmas vibes.

*TWICE - Our K-Pop Girl Group that NEVER disappoints! They're certainly "one in a million"!
