Have you ever dreamed of being on Broadway? Have you ever been to a musical performance? Dance is a form of art, and Ms. Navre has been teaching the art of dance for 16 years in Marie Curie 158. Our school is very lucky to have great academics and arts.
During an interview with Ms. Navre, she expressed how many Marie Curie students have gone on to perform in the NYC Ballet, have attended the JKO School, Frank Sinatra and LaGuardia. These schools are well known for their performance arts programs. You never know, one day you will be on Broadway and you can thank Ms. Navre.
For the past 6-8 weeks, Dance students have been working with our national ballet company, famed American Ballet Theatre. Marie Curie Dance students have watched as Julliard Students came to our school to dance for us and they have worked with NY City Centre and Alvin Ailey. They have received free tickets to see the ballet at The Metropolitan Opera House. Under the guidance of Ms. Navre, students have gone to ABT’s Studios to rehearse in their professional dance studio. This opportunity offered valuable person to person experiences.
Another perk of being a student at Marie Curie is being a part of the school musical. This year Marie Curie students will be performing Shrek the Musical. Students in the musical were also treated to experience a famous Broadway musical “Wicked”. Wow, our Dance and theater program is truly a great academic experience.
All of these opportunities have been granted to our school, because teachers like Ms. Navre write letters and apply for grants. Our school is in a middle class community, without applying for these opportunities, Marie Curie might not be able to experience all of this greatness.
