Coding Cougars Code Their Way To Victory

Recently, MS158’s own Coding Cougars won 3rd place at the last, last competition! Our own coding team won 3rd place out of many schools, and on March 5th, they went to a second competition, however, they did not place anything, but they were still doing well! What were these 2 competitions like? Probably if I had to guess, very eventful, nerve racking, and probably very, VERY scary, however… Since I wasn’t there, I interviewed Caleb Joseph, one of the biggest contributors to the team!

The objective of this competition was to build a lego robot and drive it around a map, where at each stop on the map, there would be a mission the team would have to code the robot to complete. However, you can’t touch the robot unless it was stuck, otherwise it would be considered cheating.

Caleb: “It was a really fun experience. It was obviously great being able to win 3rd place out of MANY robotics teams around the entire state.”

For them to get 3rd place was really great! The second competition was not a winning competition, however, he says it was still a great experience, and it was much more active and “crazy.” Obviously it was important to the team, and gave our school a great reputation! I personally think robotics is a really important topic. It’s a crazy important thing in the world we live in today, and could turn into a successful job in the future.

Both of these competitions were great experiences for the team, and really gave our school something great to brag about to other schools. Maybe this article will change your mind about robotics, and possibly, if you read this, you may even join the team next year. Caleb definitely thinks good of it! Good luck to the team in the future at all of the next competitions, I think we would do good, and maybe one day, even make 3rd place.
