If you’re into K-Pop, you probably know all about Boys Planet already. Recently, MBC, a Korean television station started airing Fantasy Boys. Just like Boys Planet, Fantasy Boys is a K-Pop survival show, which is a show where K-Pop trainees compete against each other to win a spot to debut. Unlike Boys Planet though, the final lineup will be 12 people instead of 9. Fantasy Boys isn’t gaining as much attention as Boys Planet but I definitely think there is a lot of potential for this show.
Summary of Current Episodes
Fantasy Boys currently has 6 Episodes out. In Episodes 1 and 2, contestants did their first audition to get sorted into three different grades. Grade 1 being the highest and best grade, and Grade 3 being the lowest and worst. Grade 1 and 2 contestants were allowed immediately into the show but Grade 3 contestants were put to consideration, and only 8 contestants from Grade 3 got to stay and go onto the next part of the show. The survivors from Grade 3 were chosen by a popularity vote that was done before the show aired, so some contestants that got to survive purely survived on their looks. In Episode 3, the first stage mission was revealed and the show officially started. In Episode 4, the first mission stages were shown, with their practicing process. In Episode 5, the first elimination was shown and the boys chose songs for their second mission. In Episode 6, the second mission stages were shown.
Popular Contestants
Though there has only been 3 episodes of this show, many contestants are gaining a lot of attention and popularity. A few of those popular contestants are gaining popularity because they already have a fanbase. Hyunbin is one of those people. He is a member of the kpop group Ciipher. Cipher is honestly one of the biggest mysteries to me because of the lack of popularity they have. Their company’s CEO is a hit singer in Korea, Rain. Rain had many opportunities to properly promote the group with his huge popularity but instead of doing that, he is sending the group’s members to kpop survival shows. Tag and Keita of Cipher were sent to Boys Planet while Hyunbin was sent to Fantasy Boys. With the success of Keita bringing many fans to Cipher, people started rooting for Hyunbin on Fantasy Boys, getting him 8th place in the current rankings. He is currently my one pick and I am really hoping he debuts. Junwon is another one of those people. Junwon was on a Japanese Jpop survival show, called & AUDITION - The Howling. He didn’t manage to debut but he gained a fanbase from there and therefore, he is 2nd place in the current rankings. As a person that watched AUDITION, I am hoping that he manages to debut. One person that has been gaining a lot of popularity in Thailand is contestant Santa. He is under the company Studio Wabi Sabi, which is known for their actors. He is known for his acting career as he is a big actor in Thailand. Santa is currently 1st place. Many fans agree that Santa is pretty good. Sungmin is another one of the popular contestants. He participated in a video, where people on the streets were interviewed. Many people that watched that video were amazed by his looks. He placed 1st place in the current rankings. He looks good and is pretty good at both singing and dancing so I have high hopes for him. There are many other pretty popular contestants but these were just the few that have been gaining the most attention.
As they both air on Thursday, many people could call it Boys Planet’s Rival. Since Boys Planet has ended, people are expecting many Boys Planet fans to move on to Fantasy Boys.
