If you’ve been a fan of the Curious Times for a while, you’ll know I was obsessed with Boys Planet back when I was in 6th grade, or 2023. So naturally, I became fans of all of the contestants and one of my favorite contestants on the show is on another survival show. If you’re not familiar with this topic, Boys Planet is a K-pop survival show which is a show where K-pop trainees fight for a spot to debut on a show. The contestant I’ll be talking about in this article is Cha Woongki. He is joining a new survival show called Universe League, the sequel to Universe Ticket (which you might know from Vanesya’s iconic Tell Me rap). In this article I’ll tell you all of the reasons why you should vote for him and why he should debut.
He’s an amazing vocalist and dancer
I believe for someone to become a K-pop idol, you need to be good at both vocals and dancing. Woongki happens to be exactly that. He’s extremely versatile and can pull off basically anything, which you can see if you compare his Supercharger performance on Boys Planet to his Count 1, 2 performance. He showcased his vocals on The King of Masked Singer and everybody in the audience was amazed by his vocals. If you look at his performances on Road to Kingdom, he’s an amazing performer and really has the ability to pull in someone’s attention.
He has lots of experience
Universe League will be Woongki’s 4th survival show. He was on To Be World Klass, Road to Kingdom, Boys Planet, and now Universe League. He even debuted in To Be World Klass but unfortunately left the debut group in 2022, 2 years after his debut. This was probably not an easy decision at all for him. After failing three times, I truly think he really deserves a debut spot. He’s been working hard since he was a child, as he’s only 22 years old (born in 2002) right now and his first survival show was in 2019. Fans are aware that this will probably be his last chance to become an idol and I really want this last chance to be successful.
He’s an amazing person
I’m not just saying he’s an amazing person because I’m a fan of him but because he’s genuinely an amazing person. He’s stood up for feminism and the LGBTQ community multiple times, which is really rare to see a man stand up for both, especially feminism. He was an active member of the Green Party, a South Korean political party that stands for equality and minority human rights movements. A former middle school classmate of Woongki said, “There was a "best looking" guy in our class and Woongki educated him so harshly he cried.”
As a girl, it really touches my heart that he stood up for us when most people choose to ignore things like that or even joke around with sexism especially in middle school. He’s truly a great person and I really appreciate his support for minority rights.
That is why I think you should vote for Cha Woongki on Universe League. Voting doesn’t start for a while but the show will start on November 22nd. I hope you tune in to the show and I hope this article got to show you how much of an amazing idol Woongki is and it convinced you to vote for him.
