Have you ever watched a movie about teenage lives in middle school or high school? Schools in the movies showcase sports programs, music/arts programs and other activities. Schools in these movies depict engaged and happy students.
I'm proud to say our school is a real-life movie/TV show; we have sports, music, art, Math and Science clubs. When students are part of a club in their school, they are more than likely to enjoy going school. Sometimes, a student who struggles in school, may want to continue going to school if there is a club for them to attend.
Listed below are several clubs Marie Curie 158 has for our students. Many of these programs would not be in existence if students did not utilize them to enhance their learning.
SKATEBOARD CLUB (STOKED)
Who enjoys a good time on a skateboard doing kick flips? Who likes taking a kick and push to the nearest convenience store on their board? Whether you are experienced, or just starting out, Marie Curie 158 formed a skateboard club.
This is a space where you will learn how to skateboard. This is a new club! Meetings will be held on Tuesday and Thursday after school in the digital arts room (room 332) starting October 14th. Only 20 students will be attending and Mr. Comer will lead this club. After one of the first meetings some students found out members are planning a snowboarding trip! That is pretty cool (hahaha...get it?)
F.E.L.L.A.S. CLUB
Have you ever needed a space to talk things over with peers? You may have a moment to check in with guidance, but over the last 5 years Marie Curie created a club for our peers to interact with each other through our discussions and community service. Last year, we teamed up with the Beacon Program and offered tutoring services to the elementary school students in our cafeteria. We wanted to do this to show the elementary school students, when they enter our building, they can find support among their peers.
How often do you get to express how you feel in a school setting? At the close of the 2025 school year, some teachers were told to discard any items that are not being used. Many teachers had books to clear out of the closets, we reached out to all of the teachers and the FELLA'S helped clear out several classrooms.
The lesson they learned is to give back to the community When you break down the acronym FELLA’S, stands for “For Every Lesson Learned Always Successful” is a club that meets every Thursday from 2:20 pm to 3:30pm. Peers from the school meet to talk about problems with one another. Recently, we talked about a quote from anyone that inspires you to do well and we also drew and wrote the quote.
PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB

Are you interested in photography? Beacon will be hosting a photography club meeting each Monday and Wednesday. This will run from 3:15pm to 4:05 pm and another time 4:10pm to 5pm. In this club you will learn how to do photography and all the skills that come with it!
SCIENCE TEAM
Science Team is led by Ms. Peretz and Ms. Biondo, helping you develop your own invention, usually for a certain theme. They will then all be shown at the school science fair for us all to see!
SOCCER TEAM
The Soccer Team is held by coach Katie. Recently, the team list was listed. Find the Soccer Team article here at the Curious Times!
TRACK CLUB
Who thinks they are the fastest runners in school? Okay, slowdown that is not the point of track club. Our awesome leader Ms. Weisser designed a running program, to promote cardiovascular health while having fun!
You will be able to set goals and work on accomplishing them during the club. Maybe you want to increase your speed, endurance, or the distance you can run. Track is a great sport to get involved and to get in shape. Ms. Weisser will be designing running courses around our school to challenge each student. Track club is the place where students will gather due to their interest in running, staying active, meeting new people and improving your overall fitness.
If you are interested in joining the track club please see Ms. Weisser in room 206 for a permission slip. Meetings are scheduled to be held on Tuesday from 2:20 - 3:50pm (tentative). First practice is to be determined during late October. It opens up to the first 30 people who bring back a sign permission slip to Ms.Weisser in room 206. We write anything about the school, world, problems, opinions, or ourselves in the newspaper. Mr. Ng will post it on the Curious Times and you can read it on the MS158 school website under families and students.
Civics Club
The Civics Club will meet every Monday (except on holidays); the meeting will be held on Tuesday. Save the date for October 21 at 7:15am in room 210. The Civics Club empowers all students to make informed decisions for your school and community. This is a club where you can get your voice heard on important issues, and transform our school into a democratic learning environment, and a good way to amplify your voice. They will meet and discuss important issues that you are passionate about. Want to make changes? Prepare a Soapbox speech! Want to see the change? Create a Participatory budget proposal to make that change happen! Last year, their participatory budget went to a cart full of school supplies for you to buy. The Civics Club also takes care of the Student Lounge and the Care Closet. There would be Cougar chips for you to use to get into the Student Lounge. There would be board games, a beanbag, pool table, and table soccer. There would also be a Care Closet for those people in need of supplies at home. Such things include soap, deodorant, toilet paper, and canned food and here is the link where you could sign up: Civic Club Interest Survey and you need to return the permission slip to Ms. Coogan in Room 210. 6th and 7th graders you are here for another 2-3 years! What would you like to see happen at MS158? 8th graders this is a great opportunity to be a part of something important before heading off to high school. Not to mention that this will look great on your application! This is the club that is in charge of the Student Government. If you want to run for any of the positions, join the Civics Council.
Student Government
Are you interested in running for Student Government? Elections will be held in November. The positions are president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary. They are elected by the students! Grade Level delegates are voted in by the Civics Council.
