Chloe Moy is one of the many excellent 8th graders running for Student Body President this year. You might’ve seen her video on running for Vice President last year in one of your Social Studies classes, and if you did, you’d know she put lots of effort into her introduction. However, there’s more on the stakes than just editing a video, such as:

  • planning ideas

  • creating posters for campaigning

  • persuading others to vote for you...and so much more.

Running for such a big position must’ve been a difficult journey coming with a long procedure. Lots of planning would be involved within the long process. It isn’t easy advertising yourself, especially in front of the whole school. However, Chloe Moy immediately knew to step up when given the bright opportunity to run in the election for such a huge role. So many questions are to be asked about her tough decision-making.

Let’s find out more about her planning process behind the scenes.

Q:  What is your campaign mainly going to be covering, and what features about yourself stand out?

A:  “My campaign is mostly going to be covering why people should vote for me for president and why I would make a good president. I plan to make myself stand out from the other candidates by organizing a Meet the Candidate with Ms. Christian where people can talk to me and ask me questions about who I am and what I plan to do for the school. I also want to make more business cards for people to wear so it may influence others to vote for me.”

Q:  What was the hardest part of the process when running for a presidential position? Were there any mixed feelings you had beforehand?

A:  “I would say that the hardest part of running for a presidential position is seeing all the other presidential campaigns. I see how many people are voting for Kelanie or Abraham and sometimes I get kind of intimidated by their campaigns and how many people are voting for them. I haven’t really had any mixed feelings about running other than that. I’ve known since the sixth grade that I wanted to run for president once I was an upperclassman. I would really love to be able to lead and talk to other people and figure out ways that I can help our school.”

Q:  Have you spoken to any students out of your classes yet, or even outside of your grade? If so, what did you point out to them?

A:  “Yes, I have spoken to other classes outside of my grade and others in the 8th grade as well. I haven’t really been campaigning in the sixth grade classes that I go to in the morning, I just try and help out the teachers whenever I can. I have had some sixth graders help me with my campaign specifically from Class 621, they have been a really big help in influencing students to vote for me. Even though they are younger than me, they also inspire me a lot and give my confidence a boost whenever I see them.”

Q:  Who was a teacher or role model inspiring you to make a change throughout the year?

A:  “A teacher who has been a really great role model and inspiration for me is Ms. Christian. I’ve known her for two years now and she has really been a great influence for me. I originally met her when the Civics Club was transferred to her. I think she’s really kind, and she’s got the leader and extroverted energy that I hope to have someday. She really inspires me to make a change in Civics because she is always ready to take action on something.”

Q:  Are there any special actions you’ll take upon the school to help improve the community?

A:  “I can’t make campaign promises, but some initiatives that I want to take on this year are creating a school garden because I have been wanting to create one for a while now. I also want to petition to improve the school bathrooms and find a way for there to be a regular restock on feminine hygiene products.”

Q:  What would you say was the most important detail to add into your campaign? Do you think this certain idea will convince students to vote for you?

A:  “One important detail that I feel should be added to my campaign is my extroverted personality and my leadership skills. I want to be able to show the school that I will be a good leader and that I’m not just running to get the title of president. I want people to be able to come to me if they ever need help with anything and I want to improve the school in as many ways that I can this year.”

Q:  What makes you different from the other candidates?

A:  “Something that makes me different from the other candidates is that I have been doing Civics for 3 years now. I know how the club works, and I know all the initiatives that we will do and have to take throughout the year.”

Q:  What other qualities should we recognize about you?

A:  “Some other qualities that you can or should know about me are that I am kind and not afraid to speak in front of a large audience.”

In summary, Chloe Moy expresses the creativity behind the campaign and her next exciting ideas to lead this school to the greatest it can be. She includes her special qualities: being kind, extroverted, and always motivated to speak up and do something for the school! She has great leadership skills and the knowledge to improve the whole community. Let’s give it up for our Miss Presidential Candidate, Chloe Moy!
