Did you know there are approximately 2,868 middle schools spread out across the entire state of New York?
Did you also know that out of those 2,868 middle schools, 1,819 middle schools are within the five boroughs of New York City.
Out of those 1,819 middle schools, there are 986,338 middle school students that need to be taught for 180 school days.
Today, I stumbled across a US NEWS article written in late November https://www.usnews.com/education/k12/middle-schools/new-york?fbclid=IwAR2J_QtdUgJZWKJr8USb_u30CxaQhuOF9ZNLYgIQYzrNM0Bal4LZZVCAkdg_aem_Afh3MzRoVoiewYOc_QPkCjotXeQt3k7DBvK51I7Yh3NwmR6u1YU5SBRl1AkW1B7ixU8 , which revealed the rankings of middle schools in New York State and New York City.
As I scrolled through the rankings and it showed that our very own Marie Curie 158 was ranked 18th Best Middle School in New York City. As a student it is an awesome feeling knowing that your school is 18th best middle school out of 1,819 middle schools!
Better yet, it happens that we are ranked 30th best middle school in all of NY state out of 2,868 middle schools! Most people would say, “So what? 30th place isn’t that impressive..” but it is! This means we are 30th place thousands of middle schools! Isn’t that amazing?
According to the website, MS 158 Marie Curie did better in math and better in reading compared with students across the state. In New York, 57% of students tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 46% tested at or above that level for math, but in Marie Curie, 79% of students scored at or above the normal level for math, and 83% for reading! Pretty cool right? So what that means is, not only is our school a ranked very respectfully, our students are the ones achieving great success.
In my opinion, Marie Curie is the best middle school ever! With all its extra curricular activities, engaging classes, kind and intelligent teachers, and smart students; my school is amazing! So, I'm sorry Mr. McHugh, Ms. Hughes and Mr. Comer and the rest of the teachers, let’s work to place our school to be best in our district! GO COUGARS!!!
