Global Warming

Have you ever wondered about global warming? Well, there are many causes of global warming, and if we don’t try to stop it now bad things are going to happen to the Earth. For example, polar bears and other arctic animals might go extinct because the ice caps are melting and their habitat is too hot for them to live in.

Carbon dioxide is one of the reasons for global warming. (Carbon dioxide is also known as CO2). Trees take in carbon dioxide, however, construction workers chop down trees and turn them into buildings and houses, people use trees for paper and wood. This is called deforestation and because of it we have less trees. A reduced amount of trees means we have more carbon dioxide and it’s heating up the earth.

Carbon dioxide is not good for the earth. By planting a tree for every one we cut and stopping workers from turning forests into buildings and houses there could be less deforestation, which is why Earth Day is so important.

In California and places closer to the equator are hotter than ever before and the number of wildfires. Hundreds of people are dying because of wildfires and heat waves, this is all happening because we can’t take care of the earth. The earth is overheating, dry trees are starting wildfires, and houses are burning because of those wildfires. If we keep trees healthy, unnecessary wildfires will not occur.

Factories and cars are also part of global warming. When cars idle,  there is smoke that comes out of the cars. The smoke releases carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere (Methane is also known as CH4). Factories also release methane and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere when they burn fossil fuels. Back when China hosted the Olympics, there were chemicals and a lot of smog in the atmosphere, so to make sure no one saw the chemicals and smog they put prettier and brighter chemicals into the atmosphere.

The greenhouse effect is a huge part of global warming. The greenhouse effect is when the carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane act like an “invisible blanket” over the earth. (Nitrous Oxide is also known as N2O) The “invisible blanket” traps a lot of heat around the earth. This is what leads to global warming. The sun goes through the “invisible blanket” it bounces off the ground, but it can’t go back through the “invisible blanket” and that traps all the sunlight and heat. We can prevent that by telling factories to stop burning fossil fuels.

Sometimes global warming leads to black outs. When it’s hot everyone turns on their air conditioner and  the air conditioner uses a lot of energy. When everyone is using their air conditioner too much energy might be used which might result in a black out. To avoid this we could open the window instead of turning on the air conditioner and use sunlight instead of house lights.

There is a big effect on reptiles when there is global warming. A reptilian egg’s gender depends on the temperature. If it’s hotter the eggs are female, if it’s colder the eggs are male. With global warming the temperature is hotter and there will be more females than males. Due to this the females will have less males to mate with. If the females don’t mate they don’t lay eggs there are less babies which might lead them closer to extinction. It also messes up the food chain and ecosystem. We can still save these wonderful creatures if we treat global warming, but we might lose some of the most magnificent animals.

With global warming around the world the ocean might rise. Scientists think by 2100 we might be living on the ocean; our lives might depend on the ocean. We might live on boats for the rest of our lives. It could be dangerous living on a boat: What if we fall off and don’t know how to swim? What if we fall into shark infested water? What if we run out of food supply? There are so many bad possibilities.

Now you know more about global warming, so I hope you help take care of our wonderful planet. By reducing, reusing, and recycling, planting new trees, saving energy, keeping trees healthy, and stop burning fossil fuels we can help take great care of our wonderful planet. These actions could lead to great changes for the future. Our Earth could turn into a harsh environment, by doing these actions the Earth can stay green.
