BRAVE Against Bullying

Have you ever walked through the halls to see verbal or physical harassment? If you have seen or been the target of bullying, you aren’t alone. In 2019, around a fifth of students in school reported being targets of bullying. So knowing all this information, how will we stop bullying, and why should schools care?

What is bullying and why should people care about bullying?

The reason why people should care about bullying is because many people are affected and scarred by it. Even though bullying may not be seen, many people are affected by another form of bullying: cyberbullying. You may be wondering what cyberbullying may be; well, cyberbullying is when somebody does something mean to other people online. So now that you know about cyberbullying, why should people even care? Bullying is a huge matter because it can leave somebody with lower self-esteem and develop depression. Once depression develops, the target may feel despair and loneliness, which can lead to problems persisting through adulthood. Now that you are aware of the situation, you may question how we can stop bullying together.

What is BRAVE?

Now that we know what bullying is and why we should care, what is our solution to stop bullying together throughout our school? In school, there is a program named Brave that fights against bullying. BRAVE was started by Mrs. Peretz and Mrs. Rey with a goal in mind: to stop bullying throughout our school. BRAVE consists of students from different grades in our school who plan good ideas to stop bullying together. In the first months of school, the BRAVE group planned for students to wear orange on Anti-Bullying Day. These actions will raise awareness about bullying and how we, as a school, can stop it.

As you can see, bullying causes effects on other people, making them change their emotions or personalities. Our school program, started by Mrs. Rey and Mrs. Peretz, helps to stop bullying and raises awareness about bullying. BRAVE is an organization consisting of students of different grades dedicating time to stop bullying. If you want to help stop bullying, then BRAVE is the program for you.
