The living stars of the ocean, a practically immortal organism – being capable of regenerating itself at will–, this creature without brain nor blood is the starfish. Starfishes are star-shaped echinoderms belonging to the class Asteroidea, they’re invertebrates in the echinoderm class – these (including all) echinoderms have spiny skin, which protects them from predators., Starfish species inhabit all of the world's oceans. These creatures’ habitats ranges from an array of environments; from tropical coral reefs, rocky shores, tidal pools, mud, and sand to kelp forests, seagrass meadows, the deep-sea floor down to at least 6,000 m (20,000 ft), throughout the intertidal zone (the area where the ocean meets the land between high and low tides).

Typically, starfishes’ appearance consists of a central disc and usually five arms, however some species of starfishes have a larger number of arms. Moreover, the aboral or upper surface of a starfish may be smooth, granular or spiny, and is covered with overlapping plates. With numerous species of starfishes being brightly coloured in various shades of Red or Orange, while other species are Blue, Grey or Brown. These living stars have tube feet operated by a hydraulic system (power transmission systems, where energy or signals are transmitted through static or dynamic forces of liquids) and a mouth at the centre of the oral or lower surface, as well. Therefore, contributing to the fact that they are opportunistic feeders and are mostly predators on benthic invertebrates.

These captivating sea creatures are associated with good luck, fortune, regeneration, and renewal by many cultures around the world being known as the stars of the sea, have been capturing people’s imaginations for centuries. Many cultures attribute some powerful meaning to this magnificent creature, seeing them as celestial symbols that represent infinite divine affection.

Having the personality of a starfish/if your spirit animal is a starfish, illustrates that you have a strong affinity for water and the sea. And although you may usually perceive things in black and white, this doesn’t illustrate that these people see the world in rose-tinted glasses, as the starfish spirit animal actually teaches that balance lies somewhere in the middle.
