XBox vs PlayStation

If you’re familiar with the gaming/console community and have shown any sort of interest in it you may have probably heard of the term, "Console Wars”. If you haven’t, then it is the term for the fans of consoles fighting about which one is superior. The argument will be XBox vs PlayStation, specifically the newest model of each which are the PS5 and XBox Series X. For today, the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 are not in this comparison because they don’t perform nearly as well as those two, and their convenience can hardly make up for it.
PlayStation

The PlayStation 5 was released in 2020 and is known as one of the most notable and best recent consoles. Despite how old it is I would still say it is very much still a competitor. It had 85 million sales in 2025 alone. The exclusives on the PS5 include God of War, The Spider Man trilogy, Ghost of Tsushima and Yotei, Astro Bot, the coming Wolverine game, and much more. The PS5’s one problem is its lack of storage. It has 846 gigabytes which is barely anything. For reference Black Myth wukong takes up 200GB. Most games don’t take up as much though. It has about 4 models of it, the standard PS5 which is actually quite hard to find now because of the new PS5 pro, (I will not talk about it because it's not a fair argument) the PS5 slim with and without the disk drive). The standard PS5 has 667GB of storage and the previous reference is for the PS5 slim.
XBox

I will say, I’m not a XBox fan. I much prefer the PS5. But I will not gatekeep the good things they have. To start, their sales in 2025 for the XBox series x are a mere 1.5 million units. Their exclusives are not much, they have: Cup Heroes, Fort Solis and a few others. They used to be known for Forza and Halo, but they gave PS5 their exclusives. For its storage it has 1 terabyte/1000GB. This is pretty good but is equivalent to about one fps game like fortnite or marvel rivals more than the PS5. They have 2 different models which are just a white version and a galaxy colored version. The white one has no differences other than how it looks, but the galaxy one has another terabyte of storage.
Extensions/other consoles under XBox/PlayStation

The PS5 has an extension which is the PlayStation Portal. This is a handheld device that has a dual-sense controller surrounding the screen. It used to work as something to just show what is happening on your PS5. You turn on your PS5 from the portal and stream what is happening to play your games on the portal. It recently got a massive update where there’s a beta version that if you have PlayStation premium you can use cloud streaming. This means that you no longer have to wait to turn on the PS5 and can play free games on wifi. For the XBox there is a handheld console called the XBox Rog Ally X. This is closer to a pc in the form of a console. There is not a name yet for this console, but they say it’s going to have steam which is a gaming platform that has many games that XBox and PlayStation don’t have. However there are PlayStation (former exclusives.). Which means that you will be able to play PlayStation games on a XBox which might make this console worth it. However this console is estimated to range from $1000-$1500. For most people this is not worth it if they are just people who want to play games casually. But it might be exciting to some.
Overview
Overall, I obviously think that PlayStation is better because of the performance for its age and price and it’s exclusive. XBox has more storage, and has options for colors. Both consoles are iconic because of their rivalry and the amazing games and performance they have been providing for so long, I think that both consoles are great for if you just want to play some games on a current gen console, but if you want to have the best mainstream console, that’s for your to decide.
