The World Series and Everything That Goes With It

The World Series is one of the most watched sports events every year, with 16.1 million viewers on average. WIth the contenders this year being new and small market teams in the Tampa Bay Rays and the Milwaukee Brewers, the World Series will continue to rake in more viewers, some of them being new. However, watching and playing the World Series wasn't always like this.

In 1947, the first ever World Series was televised. People piled into bars and streets to watch this historic moment. This World Series was the New York Yankees vs. the Brooklyn Dodgers. The Yankees won in a very entertaining 7 game series with a score of 4-3 to bring the championship to New York once again. In the 2020’s most of the World Series teams were high payroll teams, meaning they had spent lots of money acquiring new players. For example in the 2025 World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers were 1st in payroll spending over $350.0 million in spending while their opponents the Toronto Blue Jays were 5th in payroll spending $262.3 million, meaning these were teams who wanted to do whatever it takes to be a contender and potentially win the World Series. However, that also brings a lot of controversy, as small market teams feel like it is unfair, because it turns into a spending game. But, this year is different because the Tampa Bay Rays and the Milwaukee Brewers are playing. After all, they are 2 of the five teams that have never won a World Series! Not only will this be a new concept for the MLB and these teams, but this will continue to rake in more fans in Tampa, Milwaukee, and all over the World.
The future is bright for the MLB, and it will continue to grow and expand. However, will it continue to turn into a spending game, or will new teams continue to be featured. We can take comfort in knowing that 1 of the 5 teams will finally be crowned, once and for all! We don't know now, but stay and touch and find out!
