As we’ve all probably noticed, it is no longer T-shirt and shorts weather. A lot of people (including me, to be honest) don’t like the cold and would rather stay in bed drinking hot cocoa during the winter. But just because it’s cold doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do, so here are some of the best winter activities!
Skiing
Skiing is an activity where you stand on small boards called skis and ride down a mountain standing up on them. There are also ski poles, which you hold and are used to steer while going down a mountain. It is very hard, though, as you have to basically be a superhuman to have never fallen once while skiing. With practice, however, you can learn it and have lots of fun. (But you know what actually might be impossible? Walking in ski boots.)
Sledding
Sledding is just a winter classic. If you don’t know what it is: one, how on Earth? Two, it is an activity where you sit on a sleigh-like board and ride down a hill. Unlike skiing, there isn’t much skill involved with it. On the bright side, you don’t fall down as much as in skiing! Also, sledding is definitely more accessible than skiing, you don’t need to go as high as skiing, and you don’t need a ski lift or anything to get to the top of the hill because you’re not wearing skis. Though it can be hard dragging the sled up the hill, so good luck! :)
Ice Skating
While both skiing and sledding involve going down a hill, skating is always done on a flat surface. When you skate, you put on special shoes with a thin blade connected to the bottom. Then, you go on a flat surface of ice and move around, balancing on the blades of the shoe. Because the blades are so thin, it can be difficult to balance, so if you've never skated before, don’t be embarrassed when you fall. (Yes, I said when) Skating is probably the most famous winter sport since that is what you do when you play ice hockey. Though that’s an entirely different level; if skating is hard enough, imagine playing a whole other sport while skating! (And one that involves crashing into your opponents)
Tubing
Tubing is a little similar to sledding, you’re sitting down on something and riding down a hill. The one big difference is that when tubing, you are sitting in an inner tube! (Hence the name, “tubing”) I think this is better than sledding, because in an inner tube, you can spin it, making the experience a lot more thrilling and fun!
In conclusion, there are many winter activities, including some I didn't even mention, like snowboarding. So, if you have free time this winter, go try some of these out!
