NFL Week 7
Teams not playing in week 10 (bye week): Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, Las Vegas Raiders, & Seattle Seahawks
By: Timothy Arends
The NFL’s trade deadline has just ended and lets just say there were some BIG moves made on deadline day.
For starters, the trade deadline is at 4pm every year, and the deadline is the last day of the season that you can trade with other teams. There were some crazy and not crazy deals. Confusing and not so confusing deals. Nevertheless I will be examining the most important ones that happened.
Things got started with the Jets making arguably the biggest splash, landing wide receiver Davante Adams from the Raiders. On deadline day itself, we saw the Steelers pick up wide receiver Mike Williams, the Lions add edge rusher Za'Darius Smith, the Cowboys make a deal for wide receiver Jonathan Mingo, the Commanders trade for cornerback Marshon Lattimore, and the Ravens trade for corner Tre'Davious White.
These were the relatively more big deals that went down, and I will be giving my opinion on the biggest ones of the bunch. First trade: Steelers pick up wide receiver Mike Williams. My opinion: The Steelers got the better end of the deal. I think this because Mike Williams is still a reliable pass catcher, and they only had to give up a fifth round pick. Next trade: Lions add edge rusher Za'Darius Smith. My opinion: The Lions won this trade, because they needed an edge rusher after Aidan Hutchinson went down, and they got a good one in Smith. 3rd deal: Commanders trade for cornerback Marshon Lattimore.
My opinion: This was a GREAT deal for the Commanders, because they are getting one of the best corners in the league for barely anything. Final deal that I am going to preview: Ravens trade for corner Tre'Davious White. I think this was a good deal for the Ravens, because they only had to give a 7th round pick 2 years in the future. Finally, I am going to preview the best matchups of the week. We got Bengals Vs Ravens, (Thursday Night Football), Lions vs Texans, and finally Cowboys vs Eagles. Have a good week of football!
NHL Week 5
By: Luke Kim
As we kick off week 5 of the NHL, there are several stories that need to be covered this week. (Sorry for missing week 4.) Anyways, Toronto Maple Leafs star Austin Matthews got an upper body injury. The coach said he will be most likely able to play 11/8/24 against the Detroit Red Wings.
Another tough injury is Frederik Anderson on the Caroline Hurricanes. The goalie has suffered a lower body injury and was injured during their game against the Seattle Krakens. Now, Alex Ovechkin from the Washington Capitals is on his way to breaking history. He is trying to beat Wayne Gretzky’s 860 career goals which is the most in NHL history. Currently, Ovechikin is only 34 goals short. Ovechikin is for sure an NHL legend, but will he be able to beat the record? We will find out by the end of the season. Currently, the Winnipeg Jets have the best record out of any team this season. Their current stats are 15:14:1 which means they’ve played 15 games, 14 of those games they won, and 1 of those games they lost which is incredible in my opinion.
Currently the worst teams in the NHL currently are the Columbus Blue Jackets and the San Jose Sharks. Their stats are both 15:5:7. They've played 15 games, won 5, and 7 were lost. Now to some hockey. The New York Rangers with a terrible loss to the Buffalo Sabres. They lost 6-1. During 11/11/24, the New Jersey Devils faced one of the worst teams in the NHL and subsequently lost 1-0 to the San Jose Sharks. They have not made a playoff appearance since 2011.
Currently, the Winnipeg Jets have the best record out of any team this season. There was an amazing game played by the Dallas Stars where they cruised past the Pittsburgh Penguins. They quickly managed to gain 6 goals in 19 minutes. They then scored once more in the 3rd period. The Carolina Hurricanes backup goalie Pyotr Kochetkov made 30 incredible saves to give Caroline the win and give the Vegas Golden Knights their first home loss.
MLB News By Charlie CroninCron
Today's Mets news was great! And we got some news already! For the first thing, the Mets have signed former Phillies pitcher Dylan Covey to a one year deal. Some bad news however for the outfielder Tyrone Taylor. He has undergone elbow surgery, but is expected to be back for spring training. From Draft League to indy ball to AFL, one of the Mets top prospects Pintaro eyes a big next step. Also with some good news, two Mets players have been having a great bond together in the desert. These two players are Williams and Gilbert. So that is all Mets news for this week, but for now all we can do is say LGM!
And for the Yankees news it has been just like the Mets, deals and more. For the first thing, there is a rumor for the Yankees. People are asking, “Will Caleb Durbin make an impact in the Majors next year?”. Some more Yankees news is for a deal that triggered the person Gerrit Cole. He was triggered, because the original deal for him to sign was 144 million dollars. But the Yankees gave him an offer for less money, which he didn’t sign. They eventually agreed on the original deal, keeping Gerrit Cole in New York for four more years. For more Yankees news, we legends from the Dodgers and Yankees as they hosted a World Series meet and greet for fans. So, all we can say for now is LGY!
