As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to an end, a new heritage month arrives. In the middle of October we celebrate Italian Heritage Month. A month where we celebrate the Italian achievements, successes, and valuable contributions the Italian immigrants and Italian Americans have accomplished over the centuries. (osdia.org)
The Origins Of Italian Heritage Month:
It all started when Italian senator Tate Downs held a proclamation to honor the achievements of Italian Immigrants and their descendants throughout the centuries. President W. H. Bush and Congress agreed with this proclamation, and made the holiday “Italian Heritage Month” to also honor the Italian Americans for their achievements as well. (Wikipedia)
Today we celebrate Italian Heritage on October 12th to coincide with Columbus Day/Indigenous Heritage Day, and it ends after October.
Important Italian People:
There are multiple Italian people that have a massive impact on the world and are known from many different people.
Some Important Italian People are:
Christopher Columbus (Known for finding the Americas and shaping our future of maps, cuisine, and much more.)
Frank Sinatra (Known for making music that was inspirational and motivating.)
Rocky Marciano (A legendary boxer known for being the only undefeated heavyweight champion in boxing history.)
Dr Anthony Fauci (A leading immunologist who advised multiple U.S presidents and served as the director of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.)
To summarize this article, Italian Heritage month is about the sacrifices and accomplishments Italian immigrants and Italian Native Americans have achieved. To close this out, spread the word about Italian Heritage Month! Many others don’t know much about this tradition and it's great to know what other Italian Native Americans and immigrants have accomplished over these years. So like I said, spread the word!
