It's the most wonderful time of the year: Winterfest MS 158-style

What is Winterfest in Ms158? Winterfest in Ms158 is a friendly competition between all classes, 6th, 7th and 8th. Many students enjoy participating including Fronia and Eshal(us). Some days we wear color/design T-shirts/shirts, some days are challenges, some days are decorating. Some classes might not participate and others do, but that’s okay! The point of winterfest is to have fun!

What is WinterFest?

Every year, a month before winter break starts, Marie Curie hosts a thirty day competition between homerooms, from grades 6-8! Each day during morning meeting, the kids and teachers participate in a challenge based on the calendar. For example, the first winterfest challenge was a Kahoot! Each homeroom is awarded points based on the score (if it’s something like cup stacking) or the amount of participants (Like school spirit Friday!). At the end of the thirty days, the homeroom with the most points wins a pizza party!

Door Decorating!

Of course, the most competitive and artistic part of WinterFest is the Door decorating contest! Each homeroom decorates their door in something winter themed, like Santa’s Workshop, Elves, Snowmans, and more! It gets SUPER competitive, especially between teachers! We have the entire Winterfest to decorate and bring out our creative style!

Opinions

We went around asking people about their opinions on WinterFest! We asked 2 people of each grade and including Mr. Ng! We also asked ourselves.

Abigail Mo 807: “My favorite activity this far was Grinch Day! And yes, my homeroom is decorating!”

Zoe 607: “I like the cup stacking .”

Joy 620: “I loved the cup stacking since it was the most interactive event yet and it felt like a fun game when my class was comparing times.”

Fronia 707: “I like Winterfest very much, it’s fun and competitive. My homeroom is 707 and I hope we win this year. Ms. Silvestri has won every year, and I'm determined to win. My favorite challenge so far was the cup stacking challenge.”

Eshal 707: “Winterfest is super exciting, and my homeroom is really competitive about door decorating (I mean Mr. Quinn is). My favorite activity was cup stacking, because our class got it pretty fast!”

Gabriel 808: “808 is gonna win. We have the best decorations, a large budget, and I believe we are definitely gonna win. And- um- none of the classes are even going to COMPARE to us. So good luck 😛”

Mr. Ng: “I like everything about WinterFest so far. I especially enjoy seeing the smile on all of the kids faces. We are completing our work, but there is a holiday joyness in the air. The activities I like are Kahoot, Grinch Day…basically everything. Our homeroom is definitely decorating! And we have a great chance of winning.”

People participating in WinterFest are not forced too and they actually enjoy participating, having fun with every challenge. They can learn new things that they didn't know they could do. Having fun with peers and making new friends as well! We both hope that you all enjoy Winterfest and your break! <3
