In a recent girl’s basketball game where our Marie Curie 158 team, nicknamed the “Lady Cougars”, the team had their first win of the season against MS 216!! The basketball team this year consists of very capable, talented girls who have the potential to be stars!
The season brings in a new Head Coach Jalil Farmer, who most on the team say is an amazing coach! Coach Farmer has taught the basketball team to be strong, and pick themselves up after every loss, as is described in their win. Coach Farmer gives every girl a chance to prove themselves and convinces them they are a good player in their own ways.
Here are a few highlights from the game:
The stands were full of students, all watching anxiously as the score was 9-9.
The Lady Cougars made a layup, making the score 11-9. The crowds hollered and yelled like crazy, falling silent as 216 made another layup, the score now 11-11. The clock ticked down, the time now 1.25. The Lady Cougars stole the ball, rushing past their opponents to the hoop, circling around as the opposing team caught up, blocking the ball holder’s way. She saw an opening to the hoop, throwing it… and… SWISH! There went the ball, through the hoop as a 3-pointer, the score now 14-11. The clock ticked down and the crowds stampeded down to the players, slapping their backs and hollering. The first win of the season, completed dramatically and wonderfully.
There it is, the Lady Cougars first win. Suspenseful, yet amazing. I can promise you the crowds were on the edge of their seats, eyes wide. We couldn’t have won without all the amazing girls on our team, our captain, Cadence Evans, or our coaches, Jalil, Cordell, Steve, and Tony. What’s your bet, are we going to win the next game, have the crowds cheering for us like last time?
