When you think of Legos, what comes to mind? Many people would see it as just a colorful collection of bricks that children use to build castles, cars, animals, and their own imaginary worlds. But Legos can be so much more, It also has a long history starting as a small business in 1932 and becoming a big hit in the 1990s.
In 1932, Ole Kirk Christiansen started a small company making wooden toys in Denmark, He wanted kids to have toys that would make them happy which is why he named the company “Lego” as it means “Play well” in Danish. Then in 1946, Lego switched from making wooden toys to plastic toys, and then in 1958, Christiansen introduced the Lego brick as what we know it now. Fast forward to 1968, Lego then introduced the minifigures which was tiny people with movable legs and arms you could play with along with the sets. This increased the sales and made building Legos so much more fun. After that, as time went on, Legos just got cooler and cooler with themed sets like Space Adventures and superheroes.
One of the biggest moments for LEGO was in 1999 when they partnered up with Star Wars and made everyone’s favorite Star Wars ships and characters. Since then, LEGO has partnered with lots of other famous companies, like Disney, Marvel, and DC Comics, to bring your favorite characters and stories to life with LEGO sets.
Today, LEGO is known all over the world as a symbol of creativity and fun. It's a way for everyone to express themselves and build anything they can imagine.
