Fencing is a dynamic sport that combines athleticism, strategy and precision. Two athletes use swords to attack and defend against one another with the aim of striking their opponent in order to score points.

The three disciplines of modern fencing are the foil, the epee, and the sabre (also known as saber). Each discipline uses a different kind of blade (which shares the same name) and has unique rules. That being said, MS.158 has gathered interest to form a fencing club. If you are interested, go to https://tinyurl.com/fence158 for a survey to join this club. The fencing practice is on Saturday mornings and it will ask if you are right or left handed. If you want to set yourself up with a right or left handed weapon/grip, fill out the survey or see Dr. Fasolino (the new assistant principal) for more information.

The Origin Of Fencing

Fencing originated from ancient sword combat, with the earliest evidence dating back to 1190 BCE in Egypt. It evolved from military training into a sport in 15th-16th century Italy and France. Key milestones include the development of the rapier, the introduction of safety gear, and its 1896 Olympic debut.
