A Guide For Stan Twitter

According to Wikipedia: Stan Twitter is a community of Twitter users that post opinions related to celebrities, music, TV shows, movies, video games, social media, and others. The community has been noted for its particular shared terminology but also for incidents of harassment and bullying. Usually, Stan Twitter revolves around discussing public figures — primarily those in the entertainment industry such as actors and musicians. Stan Twitter, often shortened to “stantwt” is the side of Twitter where people stan (meaning like) celebrities. This term is used mostly for people that like K-pop artists. In this guide, I’ll tell you who to stay away from and how to stay safe, who to be friends with, and common language used on stantwt.

  • Who To Stay Away From and How To Stay Safe  -

Staying away from certain people on stantwt is very important. Just the littlest things can anger people on stantwt, and their reactions are very dramatic compared to the actual insult. For example, let’s say you posted a tweet saying that you do not like a certain K-pop group. Just because of this, you could get your personal information leaked and you could be in big danger. The people that usually do this are usually in the following criteria. People that are adults, people that have been seen stalking celebrities, people that sexualise K-pop idols, and people that anti K-pop groups and or idols usually are the people that do those things. If you ever come across those people, you should turn on a vpn so they can’t track your location and find your personal information.

  • Who To Be Friends With -

Although the previous section might make you think everybody isn’t safe to be friends with on stantwt, the majority of people on stantwt are very nice. People who are actively against stalking and problematic things, people who are in your age group, and friends of your friends should be who you’re talking to on stantwt. If you don’t have any friends on stantwt, then you should try to find people that follow the rest of the criteria.

  • Common Language Used On Stantwt -  When you first look at people talking on stantwt, you might be confused by their language. Below, I’ll list some common words used on stantwt and explain their meanings.

    • Oomf- The literal meaning of this word is one of my friends but, people usually don’t use the word grammatically correctly. They just use it as a way of saying mutual (somebody that you follow that follows you as well), or just a friend. An example of this word being used is, “I just found out oomf antis a group I like…”

    • Dozen- This means somebody that isn’t really good at being an idol in general. This word came from somebody that said Lucas from NCT “dozen dance, dozen sing, dozen do anything.” (The word dozen is used to replace doesn’t.) An example of this word being used is, “Omg why hasn’t the dozen in Boys Planet gotten eliminated!”

    • Nugu- Nugu is a word in Korean that means, “who”. It is used to refer to K-pop groups that aren’t really popular. An example of this word being used is, “My favorite nugu group is Ciipher y’all should stan them.”

    • Ijbol- Before you ask, no this word isn’t a Korean word. Many people often mistake this for being a  Korean word. It means “I just burst out laughing.” This is basically the “lmao” of Twitter. An example of this word being used is, “IJBOL MY OOMF JUST BOUGHT A 12  ARTIST PASS ON FROMM INSTEAD OF 12 MONTHS.”

    • Delulu- Although this word spread more to outside of the K-pop fandom, it basically means delusional. An example of this word being used is, “Guys I think I’m too delulu I’ve been hallucinating Soobin in my room lately.”
