Covid-19: Myths V.S Facts

Updated: Feb 21, 2022

A lot of people during Covid-19 panic and worry. And when a person starts to panic and worry, they get confused by the “facts” about the thing they’re worrying about. During the coronavirus, a lot of people panic and worry about their health, their families health, and their friends health. Most people like to take advantage of other people’s panic and worry, so they post FALSE information about things that other people worry about.

Since Covid-19 started, a lot of things have appeared in our social media saying “Facts About Covid” or “Things You Should Do If You Have Covid”. I hate to spill the beans, most of those so-called “Facts” are FAKE. A lot of people like taking advantage of other people’s panic so they post myths about stuff and make them seem like facts.

Now, you must be thinking, “How am I supposed to tell the difference between a Fact and a Myth about Covid-19?” You don’t have to worry about that stuff because that’s the reason why you’re reading this article.

***Disclaimer***Before you start reading the Facts and Myths about Covid-19, there is something you must know: The following information is confirmed by the CDC (Centers For Disease Control) and I am NOT making anything up.”

Let's start with the Myths.

Myth #1: If you get vaccinated, you WON’T get Covid-19.

  • This is FALSE. Even if you get vaccinated, there is a possibility that you will get Covid-19. The only thing that the vaccine does is help fight off the Covid-19 virus when it ENTERS your body. So, even though you get Covid, YOU won’t be affected that much, BUT if you go to your friends house and you have Covid, it will affect you FRIEND. And there is a possibility that your friend might not have been fully vaccinated or got a vaccine at all.

Myth #2: If you test NEGATIVE for Covid-19 you are SAFE from getting infected by Covid-19.

  • This is 100% FALSE!!! If you test negative for Covid-19, that means that you currently DO NOT have Covid-19, BUT that does NOT mean you won’t get Covid-19 in the future.

Myth#3: Using strong disinfectant (Clorox, Bleach, Windex, etc) to wipe your hands and body can help destroy bacteria.

  • This is FALSE and VERY DANGEROUS. Disinfectants are only useful to destroy the bacteria on surfaces, NOT the human body. In order to destroy the bacteria on your body, use alcohol-based hand sanitiser for your hands and use soap to wash your hands.

Myth#4: Covid-19 only affects older people so the young people don’t have to worry.

  • This is 100% FALSE. Yes, older people are more at risk getting Covid-19, but that does NOT mean younger people won’t get Covid. While the CDC still doesn’t know why some people have more severe symptoms than others, they do know for a fact that people (no matter what age) that have illnesses like cancer, diabetes, severe asthma and etc, are most likely to develop serious and severe symptoms.

Myth#5: Digital thermometers can detect Covid-19

  • This can be FALSE. The symptoms for Covid-19 (having a fever, etc) starts at least 1-14 days after you get Covid-19. So the digital thermometer can NOT detect people that have Covid-19 but experience no symptoms.

Now since I have covered all the important myths, let’s do the facts!

Fact#1: Vaccination can help lower the risk of getting Covid-19.

  • This is TRUE. Getting the vaccine helps lower the risk of getting Covid-19 and infecting others. Getting vaccinated can help keep your family and friends safe

Fact#2: If you get the vaccine, it will help lower the risk of getting Covid-19

  • This is TRUE. The vaccine helps you lower the risk of getting Covid-19 by boosting your immune system. Some people think that the vaccine weakens your immune system, but that is false.

Fact#3: It depends on the person’s immune system when it comes to Covid-19 symptoms.

  • This is TRUE. Some people’s immune systems are too weak to defend the Covid-19 virus. So it is easier to die from the Covid-19 virus. But people that have a stronger immune system don’t have severe symptoms and don’t have the higher percentage of dying to Coivd-19.

Fact#4: Losing the sense of smell and/or taste is a Covid-19 symptom.

  • This is TRUE. According to the CDC, when you lose your sense of smell and/or taste, it could possibly mean that you have Covid-19. While it doesn’t mean you 100% have Covid-19, being aware of the symptoms can help you protect yourself and others.

Fact#5: Antibiotics are NOT effective against Covid-19

  • This is TRUE. Antibiotics are only useful for bacterial infections. The Covid-19 vaccine gets frequently confused as an antibiotic. Instead the vaccine is made out of something entirely different.
